A composite door combines a tough woodgrain skin, an insulating core and a reinforced frame, so it is warmer, stronger and easier to look after than timber. We supply and install a wide choice of composite door styles, colours and glass across north and east Leeds, Wetherby and Harrogate, using our own fitters, and every installation has a 15-year guarantee.

How a composite door is made
Instead of one solid material, a composite door combines several. The outside is a hard-wearing glass-reinforced plastic (GRP) skin, textured to look like painted timber. Inside is a foam core for insulation, a reinforced central board for strength and engineered timber for stability, framed by polymer composite rails that will not absorb water. Because the rails stay dry, the door resists the swelling and bowing you can get with timber-cored doors, which matters in a damp Yorkshire winter.
*Based on the manufacturer's indicative comparison with a 48 mm solid-timber-core composite door and a 44 mm panelled timber door.

Decorative glass
The decorative pane sits sealed inside a 24 mm laminated double or triple-glazed unit, so it stays clean and protected. The outer layer is 6.8 mm laminated safety glass, backed by toughened glass. Leaded designs use zinc or brass caming, and plainer obscure finishes include Clear, Satin, Stipple and Bark. 70 mm doors can take thicker 50 mm units.

Common questions
How long does a composite door take to install?
We take out the old door and frame, install the new one, finish the edges neatly and take the old door away.
Can the inside be a different colour from the outside?
Yes. Many customers choose a bold colour outside and white or a softer shade inside.
Can I have a composite door in a Leeds conservation area?
Often, yes. A replacement front door that looks similar to the old one is usually permitted development on a house. Listed buildings, flats and Article 4 properties need consent first. We check your address before we quote.
Do composite doors need repainting?
No. The colour is applied during manufacture, so a wipe with warm soapy water now and then is all it needs. Regular cleaning also helps keep your warranty valid.
Do you offer level access?
Yes. A low aluminium threshold that meets Document M is available.
